GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team held on in the late seconds to earn a 56-55 victory over the Grove City Wolverines in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Saturday.
Berto Dryden (Woodstock, Ga./Whitefield Academy) capped off the Tomcat victory with a three-point play with 0.1 seconds left in the game. Dryden laid the ball in off a foul to tie the game at 55 and made the and-one free throw to give the Tomcats the lead n the win. Dryden scored 11 points in the game.
Luke Kochka (Monroeville, Pa. /Gateway) and
Khari Bess (Waldorf, Md./Maurice J. McDonough) each scored 12 points for the Tomcats while Bess added five assists, four rebounds and two steals.
Josh Johnson (Monroeville, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) recorded 10 points.
Avril Campbell (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) pulled down nine rebounds and blocked two shots.
Mitch Marmelstein scored 17 points while Caleb Knudsen scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds for the Wolverines.
The Tomcats shot 39.6% from the field and knocked down five three-pointers and 13 free throws. The Tomcat bench also scored 22 points.
The Tomcats (8-7, 5-2 PAC) will be back in action on Monday, January 19 at 8 p.m. to take on the Carlow University Celtics in a non-conference home contest.
