GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team cruised to a 69-49 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory Saturday over the Westminster Titans.
Josh Johnson (Monroeville, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) came off the bench to score 17 points for the Tomcats, 12 of which were scored in the second half. Johnson went 8-of-11 from the field, pulled down five rebounds, gave out four assists, stole the ball four times and blocked three shots.
Luke Kochka (Monroeville, Pa. /Gateway) shot 3-of-6 from three-point range and 6-of-10 overall from the floor to tally 16 points for the Tomcats. Kochka also stole the ball twice. Berto Dryden (Woodstock, Ga./Whitefield Academy) and Avril Campbell (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) recorded three field goals apiece to combine for 13 points. Campbell also had four rebounds.
Eric Mallinger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice), Khari Bess (Waldorf, Md./Maurice J. McDonough), and Tyreik Burton (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) each had four assists for the Tomcats. Clandell Cetoute (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) grabbed eight rebounds.
For the Titans, Deontay Scott scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Tomcats never trailed in the game. They shot 52.8 percent (28-of-53) from the field and knocked down five three-pointers. The Tomcats scored 40 points in the paint and the bench scored 35 points.
Thiel (7-6, 4-1 PAC) will travel to Waynesburg University Wednesday to take on the Yellow Jackets in a conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
