Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. – In a game that went back-and-forth for 90-plus minutes Saturday, the Franciscan University Barons defeated the Thiel Tomcats 5-4 in overtime at Alumni Stadium.
Thiel opened scoring Saturday when
Yosief Woldegebriel (Warmister, Pa./William Tennent) tallied his first goal of the season 12:10 after the opening whistle on a pass from
Cameron Janney (Salem, Va./Salem). The Tomcats maintained the lead 1-0 at halftime.
Franciscan's Leo Herrmann scored his first of three goals on the day 1:10 into the second half to tie up the score, 1-1. It took Thiel a little over four minutes to take the lead back when
Jordan Lilley (Jamestown, Ohio/Greeneview) netted his first collegiate goal.
Herrmann scored his second goal of the contest roughly six minutes later to force the second tie of the game. The tie did not last long as
Francis Ahia (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) put the Tomcats back on top 3-2 with roughly 25 minutes remaining in regulation.
Franciscan's John Imbimbo scored on a penalty kick at the 78-minute mark to force the third tie of the game.
Ray Hanzak (Madison, Ohio/Kent State University ) unlocked the tie a little over a minute later to put the Tomcats back on top, 4-3.
Edwin de St. Aubin scored the equalizer for the Barons with a little over six minutes remaining in regulation on a pass from Joseph Duran.
Herrmann went on to score the game-winner from the right side of the net for the Barons 20 seconds into overtime.
Herrmann led the Barons with three goals. Four different players scored a goal for the Tomcats – Woldegebriel, Lilley, Ahia and Hanzak.
Freshman
John O'Hare (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) made four saves in his first start with the Tomcats.
The Tomcats (0-2) will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 6 when they travel to New Concord, Ohio, to take on the Muskingum Fighting Muskies at 3:30 p.m.
