Box Score 2 GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats lost a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contests at home Friday to the W&J Presidents. W&J won the first game 9-1 in five innings and the second game 6-3.
Thiel's lone run in the first game came in the fifth inning when
Danielle Massengill (North Bend, Wash./Mt. Si) groundout out, allowing
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) to score.
Callahan led the Tomcats at the plate in the first game with two hits in two at-bats with a run scored.
Madison Rotto earned the win in the first game for the Presidents. She allowed one earned run on five hits while recording two strikeouts and no walks.
The Tomcats found themselves down 3-0 in the second game but scored two runs in the third and another run in the fourth to even the score.
Madison Cheek (Milan, Ohio/Edison) brought in Thiel's first run of Game 2 on a single to left field.
Amanda Auxier (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) followed two batters later with a single up the middle, which scored Cheek.
Callahan knocked in the game-tying run in the third on a single up the gut, allowing
Mary Kate Dougherty (Depew, N.Y/Mt. St. Mary Academy) to score from third. Dougherty was pinch running for
Molly Jo Everett (Medina, Ohio/Highland), who led off the frame with a double to right center field.
The Presidents reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs and added an insurance run in the seventh. Thiel didn't score the rest of the way as Rotto allowed just one hit over the final three innings to pick up her first save of the season.
Massengill, Cheek and Everett paced the Tomcats in the second game with two hits apiece. Massengill and Everett each notched one double in the contest.
The Tomcats (12-18, 5-9 PAC) will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Beaver Falls to play the Geneva Golden Tornadoes. The first game of the PAC doubleheader is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
