Box Score 2 LATROBE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader on the road Tuesday against the Saint Vincent Bearcats. The Tomcats lost the first game 4-2, but rebounded in the second game to earn a 10-0 win.
The Tomcats led 1-0 after one inning in the first game thanks to an
Ashley Dolan (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) single up the middle, which scored
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch). However, the Bearcats scored a pair of runs in the second inning and two more in the third to take a 4-1 lead.
Thiel managed to eke out one more run in the seventh inning of Game 1, but could not tie up the contest.
Allison Williams (Corry, Pa./Corry) suffered the loss in the first game. She allowed three earned runs on nine hits. Samantha Emert earned the win, allowing one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts.
Like she did in the first game,
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) scored the first run of Game 2 in the first inning on an RBI-single by
Danielle Massengill (North Bend, Wash./Mt. Si). The Tomcats picked up another run in the third inning when
Madison Cheek (Milan, Ohio/Edison) singled through the left side, bringing home
Alana Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch).
The Tomcats increased their lead to 5-0 in the fourth thanks to a 2-RBI single to right center field by Massengill and another RBI by
Alana Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch).
After picking up another run in the fifth, Thiel finished up the game with four runs in the seventh inning. Dolan and
Caitlyn Carney (Lake Milton, Ohio/Jackson Milton) notched one RBI apiece in the four-run seventh.
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) earned the win in the second game to improve her season record to 4-2. She threw all seven innings without allowing a run on three hits. She struck out seven batters and issued four walks.
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) went 5-for-5, including a triple, in the second game with three runs scored and an RBI. Massengill went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored while Dolan recorded three hits and an RBI.
Thiel (10-6, 3-1 PAC) will return to action Wednesday when it hosts LaRoche in a non-conference doubleheader at Tomcat Park. The first game is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
