YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Thiel College men's basketball team dropped a road contest to Division I Youngstown State 70-45 at the Beeghly Center Sunday.
Junior guard
Khari Bess (Waldorf, Md./Maurice J. McDonough) led the scoring for the Tomcats with 13 points. Bess also dished out four assists. Senior guard
Charlie Thomas (North Warren Pa./Warren Area) also scored in the double digits with 10 points.
Senior forward
Eric Mallinger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) had a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with eight points.
Josh Johnson (Monroeville, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) also pulled down seven rebounds.
Marcus Keane scored a game-high 21 points and five assists. Keane was 4-of-6 from behind the three-point line. Bobby Hain (15) and Sidney Umude (10) each scored double digits for the Penguins.
Thiel held a lead early in the first half, leading by as much as four before YSU took the lead with 9:43 remaining in the first half. The Tomcats pulled down 40 rebounds compared to YSU's 45. Thiel held an advantage in points in the paint (30), and fast break points (14).
The Tomcats will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. as they take on the Washington & Jefferson Presidents in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
