Tomcats come back to defeat Bison in overtime

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Down by 18 points at halftime, the Thiel College men's basketball team came back to defeat the Bethany Bison in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Saturday in overtime, 76-69.

Thiel trailed Bethany 42-24 at the half. The Tomcats rallied back to tie it up at the end of regulation when freshman forward Clandell Cetoute (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) knocked down a fadeaway three-pointer from the left wing with seven seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.

Playing off the energy they earned at the end of the second half, the Tomcats refused to give up a field goal to the Bison in overtime, earning the 7-point PAC win.

Eric Mallinger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) earned his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebonds. Mallinger went 6-of-10 from the field and added three assists and three steals.

Khari Bess (Waldorf, Md./Maurice J. McDonough) was an assist shy of a double-double, finishing with 12 points while dishing out nine assists. He also had seven steals.

Josh Johnson (Monroeville, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) and Justin Dade (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) each totaled 13 points, while Johnson also added five rebounds. Cetoute had five blocks while Charlie Thomas (North Warren Pa./Warren Area) scored nine points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line.

Delonte' Joyce scored a game-high 18 points for the Bison while Andres Herrero had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Tomcats outscored the Bison in the paint (38-22), in bench points (22-18) and second chance points (12-7).

The Tomcats (3-4, 1-1 PAC) will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Youngstown, Ohio to take on the Division I Youngstown State University Penguins. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN3 (http://es.pn/1tvAOxq) and on the WatchESPN app.
