GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team was defeated by the Allegheny College Gators 63-59 in a non-conference contest at Beeghly Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Khari Bess (Waldorf, Md./Maurice J. McDonough) led the Tomcats with 17 points while also dishing out five assists and recording three steals. Eric Mallinger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) and Justin Dade (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) each scored 10 points. Mallinger also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots. Freshman forward Clandell Cetoute (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) came off the bench to contribute six points and three blocks.
With Mallinger's three blocks, he became Thiel's all-time career leader in blocks (114), passing Joe Hermann's career mark of (112).
Gator Brandon Smith had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Evan Zabriski (16) and Josh Valentic (10) each scored double digits for the Gators.
The Tomcats (2-2) will look to rebound on Monday, Nov. 24 when they take on the Division II Ashland Eagles. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
