WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team earned a three-set (25-12, 25-15, 25-23) sweep over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Tuesday night.
Senior Lauren Downs (Mentor, OH/Mentor) recorded eight services aces in the game, the most in a single-contest for the Tomcats since Olivia Rogers put down 10 aces against Oberlin College on Sept. 11, 2004. Downs also dug out 12 shots Tuesday.
Freshman middle hitter Veronica Brueggman (South Park, Pa./South Park) led the Tomcat attack with a game-high 11 kills on 25 attempts. Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) registered nine kills for the Tomcats while Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) dished out 21 assists.
Kourtney Skinner had 10 kills for Waynesburg while Jessica Dorazio had a match-high 19 digs.
The Tomcats (12-15, 9-7 PAC) are on a three-game winning streak and have won five of their last seven games. The Tomcats will host the Geneva Golden Tornadoes Thursday at 7 p.m.
