NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team earned a 3-2 (21-25, 27-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-13) Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory Tuesday on the road over the Westminster Titans.
Thiel lost the first set, but tied up the match with a 27-25 win in the second set. Westminster won the third set, but Thiel won the fourth set 25-23 and the decisive fifth set 15-13 to earn the win.
Lauren Downs (Mentor, OH/Mentor) recorded a career single-match high 43 digs in the win while
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) and
Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) both recorded double-doubles. Shelley handed out 45 assists with 17 digs and five kills while Hall tallied 19 digs and 12 kills.
Also for the Tomcats,
Veronica Brueggman (South Park, Pa./South Park) recorded 15 kills and seven digs while
Hannah Budzowski (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) had 15 kills and five digs.
Jessa Covine (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Maplewood) chipped in with 10 digs.
Four Titans recorded double-doubles in the loss. Tiffany Jackson dished out 26 assists and 15 digs while Kassie Freyermuth notched 23 digs and 12 kills. Kendell Dickson came up with 22 digs and 12 kills while Anna Thompson was credited with 21 assists and 15 digs.
Thiel improved to 10-15 overall and 7-7 in the PAC with Tuesday's win. The Tomcats will return to action Friday when they host the Chatham Cougars at 7 p.m.
