Box Score GREENSBURG, Pa.—The Thiel men's soccer team lost in heartbreaking fashion Saturday, as a penalty kick in overtime gave the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg a narrow 1-0 win over the Tomcats.
After both teams played to a scoreless tie at the end of regulation, the Tomcats were whistled for a foul inside the box at the 12 minute mark of the first overtime period. Jeremy Niemiec, who had already taken three shots to that point, belted the ball into the net to give the Bobcats the golden-goal win.
The Tomcats took seven shots, led by
Rory Duncan (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) with five. For senior goalkeeper
Andrew Hindman (Dunedin, Fla./Dunedin) it was the first goal he had allowed in 292 minutes, as he had previously posted back-to-back shutout wins.
The Tomcats host Penn State Allegheny this Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
