Box Score 2 GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday against the Saint Vincent Bearcats at Tomcat Park on the Thiel College campus. The Tomcats lost the first game, 6-5, before winning the second game, 3-2.
The Tomcats trailed 3-0 midway through the third inning of the first game, but managed to pick up a run in the bottom of the third frame when
Ashley Rable (Warren, Ohio/Champion) singled to left center field, scoring
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) from second base.
The Tomcats tied up the game in the fourth inning, which was highlighted by
Ashley Dolan (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional)'s 2-RBI single to center field. However, Saint Vincent responded with a 3-run sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead.
Thiel cut Saint Vincent's lead down to 6-4 in the sixth inning when Callahan tripled down the left field line and scored on
Danielle Massengill (North Bend, Wash./Mt. Si)'s sacrifice fly to center field. The Tomcats also added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on
Molly Jo Everett (Medina, Ohio/Highland)'s RBI, which scored Dolan from third base, but the Tomcats couldn't come up with the game-tying run and fell, 6-5.
Dolan went 4-for-4 in the first game with two RBIs and a run scored while Callahan went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Lindsey Daniels and Sarah Swettlen each recorded two hits for the Bearcats.
Allison Williams (Corry, Pa./Corry) suffered the loss in 4 1/3 innings of relief work. She allowed three runs, two of which were earned, on four hits. Emily Lauterbach earned the win. She allowed five runs on10 hits with three strikeouts.
In the second game, the Tomcats scratched out a run in the first inning and added another run in the second inning to take a 2-0 advantage. Thiel's first-inning run came on an RBI-triple to center field by
Ang Masters (Arnold, Pa./Valley), which scored Rable from first base. In the second inning, Everett tripled and scored on
Ali House (Liberty, Ohio/Liberty)'s single up the middle.
The Tomcats went on to take a 3-0 lead in the second game in the fifth inning on Dolan's single to center field, which scored Massengill, who reached base on a double.
The Bearcats picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Tomcats held on for the win, 3-2.
Dolan went 2-for-3 in the second game with one RBI.
Morgan White (Warren, Ohio/Champion) earned the win in the second game. It was her second win of the season. She allowed just three hits over six innings with four strikeouts and one walk. Williams pitched the seventh inning for the Tomcats, earning her first save of the season. Ally Vrcek suffered the loss. She allowed three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Tomcats (6-12, 1-3 PAC) will return to action Monday when they host the Grove City Wolverines at Tomcat Park. The first pitch of the Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader is slated for 3:30 p.m.
