Tomcats extend winning streak to six games

Pick up third straight sweep

First baseman Molly Jo Everett roped two doubles, recorded three RBIs and scored a run in Thiel’s 10-1 Game 1 victory over Chatham Saturday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team swept its third straight doubleheader and extended its winning streak to six straight games Saturday with a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) wins over Chatham. The Tomcats won the first game 10-1 before winning the second game 8-0 in five frames.
 
The Chatham Cougars drew first blood in Game 1 when Natalie Vazquez scored from second base on Jenn Stefano's RBI-double to right center field.
 
Chatham held on to its 1-0 lead until the Tomcats scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning. Danielle Massengill (North Bend, Wash./Mt. Si) got her team started with a one-out triple to center field, and she scored on Ashley Rable (Warren, Ohio/Champion)'s RBI-single. Molly Jo Everett (Medina, Ohio/Highland) notched three RBIs on a bases-clearing double to right center field and Ali House (Liberty, Ohio/Liberty) gave the Tomcats two more runs on a 2-RBI double to left center field.
 
The Tomcats went on to score four more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Second baseman Ashley Dolan (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) highlighted the inning with a run-producing single through the left side of the infield.
 
Dolan went 3-for-4 in the first game with an RBI and a run scored. Everett went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, all of which came on a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning, and a run scored. House went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, both of which came on a double in the fifth frame, and a run scored. Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) also recorded two hits in the 10-1 win.
 
Elizabeth Deckelman paced the Cougars in the first game with two hits.
 
Allison Williams (Corry, Pa./Corry) improved to 4-4 on the season with the win. She allowed one unearned run on five hits with two strikeouts.
 
In the second game, Massengill, gave the Tomcats a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a leadoff homer. Ang Masters (Arnold, Pa./Valley) extended Thiel's lead to 3-0 later in the inning on a 2-RBI double. The Tomcats picked up another run in the second inning on Massengill's single through the right side of the infield.
 
In their third at-bat of the second game, Thiel picked up three runs to take a 7-0 lead. Massengill highlighted the frame with a 2-run single to right field. The Tomcats earned their eighth and final run of the game in the fourth inning on Dolan's RBI-single through the right side of the infield.
 
Callahan tossed a five-inning one-hitter with five strikeouts in the second game to improve her season record to 8-5. It was her third shutout of the season.
 
Massengill went 3-for-3 in the second game with four RBIs and a run scored. She hit a solo homer in the first inning. Dolan went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Ashley Rable (Warren, Ohio/Champion) also went 2-for-3.
 
The Tomcats (14-16, 7-7 PAC) will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Washington, Pa. to face the W&J Presidents in a pivotal PAC doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
