ROBINSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Thiel College men's tennis team led from start to finish in Tuesday's 6-3 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over Waynesburg University.
The Tomcats improve to 14-5 overall and 5-2 in PAC play with the win, securing a third place finish in the PAC- its highest finish since the program was reinstated in 2010. The 14 wins is also a school-record for wins in a single-season.
Thiel went ahead 2-1 with wins at number one and three doubles.
Richard Parks (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) and
Collin McAndrew (Dayton, Ohio/General McLane) cruised to an 8-1 win at number one doubles, while the doubles tandem of Trevor Fancher and Logan Sturgeon won their fifth straight match with an 8-3 victory at number three doubles.
Parks led the singles effort with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Waynesburg's Isiah Cochran on the No. 1 court. Freshman Logan Sturgeon earned a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles.
Senior
Shun Kogai (Tokyo, Japan/) clinched the win for Thiel with a 6-1, 6-4 win at number four singles while
Yosief Woldegebriel (Hartsville, Pa./William Tennent) won his sixth straight match, improving to 9-2 on the year with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number six singles.
Thiel will next play in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships from April 19-20 at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pa.
