Late rally not enough for Tomcats in loss to Titans

House leads Thiel at the plate with four hits

Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team scored three runs over the final two innings Monday, but it wasn't enough in a 6-3 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to the Westminster Titans at Tomcat Park.

Westminster opened up a 4-0 lead after two innings of play and led 6-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Tomcats scratched out their first run of the game in the sixth inning thanks to an Ali House (Liberty, Ohio/Liberty) single, a double by Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and an error by the Titans.

Callahan retired the Titans in order in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, House knocked in a pair of runs with two outs on a bases-loaded single down the right field line. However, Westminster pitcher Chelsea Brown struck out the next batter to end the threat, giving her team the 6-3 win.

Thiel outhit Westminster 11-7 but couldn't string together enough hits over the course of the game. House went 4-for-4 for the Tomcats with two RBIs and a run scored while designated hitter Madison Cheek (Milan, Ohio/Edison) went 2-for-4. Olet Stasko went 2-for-3 for the Titans with three RBIs.

Brown earned the win. She allowed three runs, only two of which were earned, on 11 hits. She struck out four and issued one walk. Callahan suffered the loss. She allowed seven hits and registered four strikeouts.

The Tomcats (8-16, 3-7 PAC) will return to action Tuesday when they host the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets at Tomcat Park. The first pitch of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
