Tomcats wrap up NTC Spring Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MINNEOLA, Fla. – The Thiel Tomcats concluded play in the NTC Spring Games Friday in Minneola, Fla. with a pair of close losses. Thiel lost to Northwestern College (MN) 7-4 in the first game of the day before losing 4-0 to John Carroll.
 
Northwestern struck for three runs in the first inning. Thiel came back to tie the game up with a 3-run third inning thanks to RBI hits by Ashley Dolan (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional), Ang Masters (Arnold, Pa./Valley) and Molly Jo Everett (Medina, Ohio/Highland).
 
Northwestern stormed back to take the lead 7-3 with four runs in the bottom of the third. Thiel scored one run in the seventh inning when Dolan notched her second RBI of the game, but couldn't come up with enough runs to tie the game.
 
Dolan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored while Masters went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Megan VanHulzen went 3-for-3 for the Eagles with three RBIs and two runs scored.
 
Ali House (Liberty, Ohio/Liberty) pitched three strong innings of relief for the Tomcats. She refused to give up a run or a walk and allowed just two hits with two strikeouts. Molly Johnsen earned the win for the Eagles. She gave up four runs, three of which were earned, on eight hits while striking out four and refusing to allow a walk.
 
Thiel bowed to John Carroll University in the second game Friday, 4-0. John Carroll scored the first run of the game in the third inning before adding three more runs in the fourth.
 
Morgan White (Warren, Ohio/Champion) paced the Tomcats at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance. Mackenzie Griffin (3) and Samantha Becker (2) had multi-hit games for John Carroll.
 
Rachel Byrnes earned the win. She tossed a complete game shutout and allowed just four hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) absorbed the loss. She allowed four runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
 
The Tomcats are scheduled to play Penn State Beaver Thursday at 3 p.m. They are also scheduled to host their first home game of the season Saturday at 1 p.m. against Oberlin College.
