Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to four straight games Saturday with a 14-8 victory over the W&J Presidents at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome on the Thiel College campus.
The four-game winning streak is the longest in the young women's lacrosse program's history. In addition, the win brought the Tomcats to a .500 record (6-6) on the season.
Brittany Fradkin staked the Presidents to an early 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest, but the Tomcats responded with five straight goals to claim a 5-1 lead with a little more than 21 minutes remaining in the first half.
Hannah Stelmach (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) scored two goals for the Tomcats during their 5-0 run while
Emily Harrigan (West Hartford, Conn./Hall),
Sharr Martin (San Diego, Calif./The Preuss School UCSD) and
Beth Snider (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) scored one goal apiece.
W&J came back with a 3-goal run of its own to cut Thiel's lead down to 5-4 with 12:33 left in the first half on goals by Megan Kelly, Brittany Fradkin and Alex Dikos.
The Tomcats went on to outscore the Presidents 3-2 over the remainder of the first half to hold an 8-6 lead at halftime. Stelmach, Snider and Martin all scored for the Tomcats over the last 10 minutes and 19 seconds of the first half with Martin's goal coming with just over a minute remaining before the break.
Thiel outscored W&J 6-2 in the second half to secure the 14-8 win. It was Thiel's second win of the season over a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) member school. The Tomcats' first win of the season over a PAC member school came in a 15-14 victory over Saint Vincent College on March 12.
Snider led the Tomcats with five points (4G, 1A) Saturday while Harrigan (3G, 1), Stelmach (4G, 1A) and Martin recorded four points apiece. Fradkin paced the Presidents with five points (3G, 2A).
Asia Wallace (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) earned the win for the Tomcats, making five saves in the first half.
Abby Spriggs (Westminster, Md./Westminster) guarded Thiel's net in the second half. She made four saves in 30 minutes of work. Julia McLellan suffered the loss. She made seven saves in 60 minutes of play.
Thiel's lone senior,
Alison Lange (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary), was honored during Senior Day before Saturday's game.
The Tomcats (6-6) will be back in action Thursday when they travel to Buckhannon, W.Va. to take on West Virginia Wesleyan College. The contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
