Three Score Second Half Lifts Tomcats over Lions

UNIONVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's soccer squad, behind a one goal, one assist effort from Luke Mesing (Freedom, Pa./Freedom ), registered a 4-3 at Penn-State Beaver on Thursday night.

Thiel (2-1-0) assumed a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute of play as Rory Duncan (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) got things by the finding the back of the net thanks to a pass from Allen Kechenmeister. Penn State answered with two goals of their own, taking a 2-1 lead into half.
 
The Tomcats came out strong in the second half, as Francis Ahia (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) scored his third goal in two games in the 55th minute, taking a pass from Mesing to tie the game at 2-2.
 
After a Lions goal tied the game at 3-3, Thiel's Luke Mesing (Freedom, Pa./Freedom ) found the back of the net in the 82nd minute to give the Tomcats the win.
 
The Tomcats finished with a 17-10 advantage in shots over Penn State Beaver (0-4) and managed a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
Freshman Joe Iorio finished with four saves for the Tomcats as he got his first win in his first collegiate match.

Thiel returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6 when they host Pitt-Greensburg at Alumni Stadium. The first game of a scheduled doubleheader with the women's squad is scheduled for 1 p.m.
