Tomcat Softball Earns Conference Sweep Over Chatham University

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Led by Ashley Dolan (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional), the softball team (16-16; 9-5 PAC) swept Chatham University in a conference double-header on Sunday afternoon by the scores of 6-2 and 11-2.
 
In the first game, Danielle Massengill (North Bend, Wash./Mt. Si) led the top of the first inning with a RBI triple to center field, scoring Ashley Rable (Warren, Ohio/Champion).
 
The Tomcats tacked on three more runs in the top of the second when Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) doubled to right center followed by Becky Betteridge (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut)'s RBI single to left field. Rable kept the inning going with a single to left field and Dolan's base clearing double gave the Tomcats a 5-0 lead.
 
Thiel scored in the top of the sixth and held onto the win to end game one.
 
Offensively, Ashley Dolan (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) went 2-for-3 with three RBI while Becky Betteridge (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Danielle Massengill (North Bend, Wash./Mt. Si) and Molly Jo Everett (Medina, Ohio/Highland) each had an RBI respectively.
 
The winning pitcher for the Tomcats was Kristen Moreland (Dover, Ohio/Dover) who pitched six innings with five strikeouts and allowed two walks.
 
The Tomcats started the second game just like the first, scoring in every inning.
 
In the bottom of the first inning when Molly Jo Everett (Medina, Ohio/Highland) hit a two RBI single to center field.
 
Thiel tacked on four more runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning and put up two more in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the fourth, the Tomcats scored three runs to give them a 11-2 victory in the mercy.
 
Everett went 3-for-3 with two RBI while Dolan was 2-for-3 with three RBI and teammates Ashley Rable (Warren, Ohio/Champion) and Becky Betteridge (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) each went 3-for-4.
 
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) pitched a complete game with five strikeouts and allowed two hits.
 
The Tomcats return to Greenville, Pa. on Wednesday, April 25 for a conference double-header against Washington & Jefferson. The first game is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
