Mahdi’s Career Day Helps Lead Tomcats to Win Over Medaille

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Cassy Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel) poured in a career-high six goals to lead the women's lacrosse squad to a 16-10 win over visiting Medaille College Tuesday evening at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.

The Tomcats, winners of four of their last five, had six players register a point in the victory. Mahdi, who's six goals paced the Thiel (4-6) offense, has recorded 15 goals over the Tomcats last five matches.

Carley Cobb totaled three goals, her sixth game of three-plus goals this season, while Hannah Stelmach (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Sharr Martin (San Diego, Calif./The Preuss School UCSD) both added a pair of goals. Emily Harrigan (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) added a goal and an assist.

Asia Wallace (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) made eight saves in net for the Tomcats.

Thiel forced the Mavericks into 13 of their 27 turnovers and managed a 39-26 edge in ground balls. Thiel also outshot Medaille 42-20 on the day.

Stelmach paced the Tomcats with four ground balls with Mahdi, Tori Williamson (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) and Jenna Simanovsky (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) each adding a pair.

Heather Boyzuck led Medaille (3-5) with two goals and an assist. Emily Brophy, Katie Botsford and Taylor Hackford each scored twice. Chris Ballestracci made 13 saves for the Mavericks while Botsford corralled a game-high six ground balls and Brophy added five.

Boyzuck notched the game's opening goal to give the visiting Mavericks just 2:03 in and scored her second at the 24:15 mark to give Medaille a 2-0 advantage.

Mahdi scored her first from within the circle at the 21:49 mark, and the Tomcats would close out the half outscoring the Mavericks 8-1 and carry a 9-5 advantage into the half.

Cobb's goal at the 28:55 mark opened the second half scoring and gave Thiel a 10-5 lead. The Tomcats would outscore the Mavericks 7-4 over the final 30 minutes to secure the win.

Thiel will return to action on Tuesday, April 17 as it plays host to Oberlin College. The match is slated to get underway at 6 p.m.
