Mahdi's Hat Trick Not Enough For Tomcats, Take Loss To Visiting Big Red

GREENVILL, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Tomcat women's lacrosse squad (0-5) lost to the visiting Big Red of Denison University by the score of 18-4.
 
Denison scored four goals in the first five minutes of the game and tacked on eight more goals to end the first half of the game. Cassy Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel) scored her sixth goal of the season at the 3:14 mark in the first period off an Emily Harrigan (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) pass to make the score 11-1.
 
The Big Red opened the second half with a goal when Paige Williams connected with the back of the net from Erin Keller. The Big Red scored six more times in the second half compared to Thiel's three to end the game in Denison's favor by the score of 18-4.
 
For Denison, Olivia Shiland, Lisa Feroli, Alex Thurner, and Paige Williams each had three goals respectively for the Big Red while Feroli tacked on three assists.
 
For Thiel, Mahdi collected her second hat trick of the season, scoring three goals on six shots while Asia Wallace (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) had 14 saves in goal.
 
The Tomcat squad will return to the Rissell-Schreyer Dome on Wednesday, March 28 to take on West Virginia Wesleyan. The game is expected to start at 4 p.m.
