GREENVILLE, Pa. – In their home opener at Tomcat Park, the softball team (3-7) dropped two games in their double header against the visiting LaRoche Redhawks. The Tomcats fell in game one 5-4 and dropped game two 9-5.
The Redhawks would score the first run of the game when Jodi Walsh scored. The bats would come alive in the bottom of the inning for the Tomcats when
Morgan White (Warren, Ohio/Champion) started the inning off with a double to center field. With a runner on third,
Danielle Massengill (North Bend, Wash./Mt. Si) batted in her sixth run of the season, tying the game 1-1.
Thiel carried that momentum into the bottom of the fourth inning as they tacked on two more runs.
The Redhawks responded with two runs of their own, tying the game 3-3 in the top of the fifth. In the sixth inning, LaRoche scored two more runs making the score 5-3.
Thiel fought hard in the bottom of the sixth when the scored a run, coming within one (5-4) but fell short of the comeback, dropping the first game 5-4 to the Redhawks.
The bats stayed hot in the second game for LaRoche as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning.
The Tomcats didn't back down, scoring two runs of their own to get within one run.
Thiel could not slow down the Redhawks offense as they scored three runs to increase the 6-2. The Tomcats responded with a run in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-3.
The Redhawks bats proved to be too much for the Tomcats as they fell 9-5.
The Tomcats will return to Tomcat Park this Saturday for a double header against Hiram College Terriors. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
