GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Tomcats were defeated Saturday at Alumni Stadium by the Saint Vincent Bearcats, 3-1.
Jeff Swanson (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) gave the Tomcats an early lift, scoring the first goal of the game 6:52 into regulation when he scored off a corner kick by
Tyler Strite (Fayetteville, Pa./Shalom Christian).
Thiel maintained its 1-0 lead at halftime, but the second half belonged to the Bearcats, who scored three unanswered goals for the 3-1 victory.
Josue Cuadra scored a little over two minutes into the second half on a pass from Brody Ruffner to tie up the contest, 1-1.
The Bearcats took the lead less than two minutes after Cuadra's goal when Ruffner found the back of the net. Luke D'Amico and Clemente Mejia assisted.
Cuadra scored an insurance goal for the Bearcats at the 76:11 mark to close out scoring.
Freshman Joe Iorio made five saves for the Tomcats while Mejia made four stops for the Bearcats.
Thiel (4-10-2, 0-5-1 PAC) will travel to New Wilmington, Pa., Tuesday to take on the Westminster Titans. Opening kick is set for 7:30 p.m.
