Strong Second Half Helps Geneva Women Secure 57-56 Win at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Geneva women's basketball team outscored host Thiel 18-6 over the final eight minutes of Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup at Beeghly Gymnasium en route to a 57-56 victory.

Geneva (3-10, 2-4) was led by Beth DeLuca 14-point, seven-rebound effort. DeLuca was a major part of the Golden Tornadoes second-half surge, scoring 11 of her 14 points in the second half of action.

Kristland McCracken added 11 points and six rebounds while Chelsea Kauffman totaled 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) led the Thiel (2-11, 2-4) with 16 points and seven rebounds. Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) finished with 12 points and two rebounds while Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) totaled 12 points, eight rebounds, and a season-high six blocks.

A Kate Reinsel (Brookville, Pa./Brookville Area) three with just under three to play in the first lifted the Tomcats to a 28-18 advantage and Thiel went into the break with a 32-26 lead.

The Tomcats used a 14-6 run to start the second half to push their lead to as many as 14, 46-32, with 14:45 remaining.

Trailing by 11, 50-39, with 8:09 to play, Geneva used a 15-3 surge covering the following 5:06 to go up by one, 54-53, with a little more than three minutes to play and were able to hold on to post the 57-56 victory.

The Tomcats return to PAC play on Wednesday, January 11 when they travel to Bethany College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
