WEXFORD, Pa. — Following two straight victories this past week, junior guard
Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) has been given her first conference player of the week award of the season by the conference office.
Muffley averaged a “double-double” for the 2-0 Tomcats with 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game last week. She recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds in the Tomcats' 65-53 road win over Mercer County rival Grove City, then recorded 13 points and 11 boards to lift the Tomcats to a 64-62 home upset over Waynesburg, which knocked the Yellow Jackets out of a three-way tie for first place in the PAC.
The two wins gave the Tomcats three straight conference victories for the first time since the 1997-98 season. Muffley's player of the week honor was the first by a Tomcat women's basketball athlete this season.
The Tomcats are slated for a pair of games this week as they take their 5-5 conference record to Washington, Pa. to take on the Presidents of W & J on Wednesday January, 25 and come home to play the Titans of Westminster on Saturday January, 28.
