GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's soccer squad, behind a one goal, one assist effort from
Luke Mesing (Freedom, Pa./Freedom ), registered a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting Penn State Beaver Thursday evening at Alumni Stadium.
Thiel (2-2-0) assumed a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute of play as Mesing headed in a
Tyler Strite (Fayetteville, Pa./Shalom Christian) corner kick.
Francis Ahia (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) scored in the 37th off of a Mesing assist to the give the Tomcats a 2-0 advantage going into the half.
Trevor Ridilla (Boswell, Pa./North Star) scored off of a
Jared Wilcox (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) assist in the 53rd minute to close out the scoring.
The Tomcats finished with an 11-5 advantage in shots over Penn State Beaver (0-2-0) and managed a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
Ethan Bayne (Palma Ceia, Fla./H.B. Plant) finished with three saves for the Tomcats as he recorded his first shutout of the season.
Thiel returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Pitt-Greensburg. The first game of a scheduled doubleheader with the women's squad is scheduled for 1 p.m.
