GREENVILLE, Pa. – A quartet of Tomcats scored in their 4-1 victory over the visiting Hilbert College men's soccer team Thursday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
Rory Duncan (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) notched his second and third assists of the season in the win.
The four goals for Thiel (5-4-0) are a 2011 single-game high and are the most scored in a game since recording a 4-2 win over Saint Vincent College on Oct. 9, 2010.
The Tomcats posted the first score of the afternoon in the 32nd minute (31:35) as
Yosief Woldegebriel (Warmister, Pa./William Tennent), who entered the game as a substitution for Duncan just two minutes prior, scored his first collegiate goal off of an assist by
Tyler Hanks (Cleveland, Ohio/Olmstead Falls).
A score by
Allen Kuechenmeister (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) in the 38th minute (37:48), his second of the season, extended the Tomcats' lead to 2-0.
Greg Zitnik brought the visiting Hawks to back to within one in the 45th minute (44:36) before the break.
Duncan assisted on a
Tanner Mesing (Freedom, Pa./Freedom) score in the 46th minute (45:47) and a
Matt Thompson (Saint Petersburg, Fla./Admiral Farragut) goal in the 83rd minute (82:05) to close out the scoring. The second-half goals were the third of the season for both Mesing and Thompson.
Andrew Hindman (Dunedin, Fla./Dunedin) ran his season record to 4-0 in goal for the Tomcats as he posted seven saves in the win.
Hilbert (0-7-1) finished with an 8-6 edge in shots on goal while Thiel registered a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Kamil Cislak had two saves for the Hawks.
Thiel returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they host Salem International University at 4 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. The game will follow Saturday's Homecoming football game, scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
