WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The football squad was dealt a 46-7 loss by Waynesburg University Saturday afternoon at Wiley Stadium in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener for both schools.
Quarterback Josh Graham piloted a balanced Yellow Jackets (1-1, 1-0) offensive attack, piling up 345 total yards (225 yards passing, 120 yards rushing) of offense. Graham finished 11-of-26 for 120 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Adam Moses was his top receiver on the afternoon, catching five passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Christian Jackson and Justin Falcon each added receiving touchdowns.
Tyler Fatigante paced the Yellow Jacket rushing attack with two touchdowns on two carries. He found the end zone following a six-yard run in the first quarter and on a 65-yard scamper early in the fourth. Falcon added 67 yards on nine carries while Bertrand Ngampa and Dominic Moore each added rushing scores.
Bryan Gary anchored the Yellow Jackets defensively, totaling seven tackles and an interception. Darryl Moore Jr. added six tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery while Scott Bogdan chipped in with six tackles and 1.5 sacks. The Waynesburg defense limited Thiel (0-3, 0-1) to just 146 total yards (73 yards rushing, 73 yards passing).
Andrew Smith (Williamsfield, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) finished 10-of-20 passing for 68 yards and three interceptions.
De'Von Drish (Bratenahl, Ohio/Ginn Academy) rushed 19 times for 63 yards and a score with
Brent Walter (Springfield, W. Va./Hampshire) totaling 32 yards on 10 carries.
Zane Garza (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) and
Kyle Turkalj (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) each finished with three catches.
Ryan Dawes (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) made seven stops to go along with 1.0 tackle for loss and an interception.
Tim Taylor (Girard, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep) finished with six tackles and 3.0 tackles for loss while Robert Edwards also added six.
Waynesburg tallied 14 points in the first quarter and 19 more in the second as they sped out to a 33-0 lead going into the half.
Graham's 32-yard scoring pass to Christian Jackson with 22 seconds remaining in the third extended the Yellow Jacket lead to 40-0 and Fatigante's 65-yard scoring run with 11:28 to go in the fourth pushed their lead to 46-7.
Thiel's lone score came with 6:23 to go in the game when Drish scored on a three-yard burst, capping an eight-play, 40-yard drive. The score was Drish's first of his career.
The Tomcats return to Alumni Stadium for Homecoming 2011 on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they play host to Saint Vincent College. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
