Schell to Play for Third Place at PAC Men's Tennis Championships

ERIE, Pa. — Thiel's Brad Schell (Linesville, Pa./Conneaut) went 1-1 at sixth singles on the first day of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championships and will play for third place when play resumes Saturday.

Schell, the fourth seed, advanced to the semifinals with a 7-5, 6-1 win over fifth-seeded Brian Felker of Washington & Jefferson. He was defeated 6-1, 6-4 by Grove City's top-seeded Stephen Harrison, dropping him into the consolation final match, where he will take on second-seeded Brad Thomas of Westminster.

Thiel's Louie Rubin (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain), Jian Long Zheng (Fujian, China/Quanzhou ZianDi ), Zach Kubec (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva), Matt Hadden (Franklin, Pa./Rocky Grove) and Naoki Osawa (Ota Gumma, Japan/Jyutoku) were all eliminated in the first round, as were the doubles teams of Zheng/Hadden, Rubin/Kubec and Kirt Strock (Zanesville, Ohio/Tri-Valley)/Josh Bartsch (Pittsburgh, Pa./The Kiski School).

The second day of play will begin Saturday at Pennbriar Athletic Club.
