GREENVILLE, Pa. – After losing their first six Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contests the Thiel softball squad has strung together four straight wins, including a pair of victories Thursday afternoon against visiting Washington & Jefferson College. The Tomcats claimed the opener 5-4 and registered a 3-2 win in the nightcap.

Laura Davin (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished the two-game series 5-6 with two doubles, a triple, two runs scored and a RBI while Melissa Rankin (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth) was a combined 5-9 after going 4-4 in the opener.

Davin's batting average has risen to a season-high .403 after securing hits in six straight games. She is currently batting .438 (7-16) with runners in scoring position and .455 (10-22) with two outs. Of her 10 RBI this season, eight have come with two outs. Rankin's .448 average currently leads the team and her nine-game hitting streak is also a team best. She is currently hitting .412 (7-17) with runners in scoring position and .400 (10-25) with two outs.

In game one the Tomcats (8-17, 4-6) posted three runs in the top of the second. Danielle Dwyer (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton)'s solo home run to left center, her fifth of the season, gave Thiel an early 1-0 advantage. Davin's RBI triple followed by Becky Betteridge (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut)'s RBI single gave the Tomcats a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the frame. RBI singles from Betteridge and Molly Jo Everett (Medina, Ohio/Highland) in the fifth saw Thiel extend its lead to 5-0.

The Presidents (6-16, 1-7) managed four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to get to within one, 5-4, but that would be as close as they would get.

Kristen Moreland (Dover, Ohio/Dover) finished with 10 strikeouts, earning the game one victory. She allowed four runs (4ER) on 11 hits with a pair of walks in 7.0 innings. Betteridge finished 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Davin went 3-3 with a double, a triple, two runs, and a RBI. Dwyer finished 1-2 with a pair of walks.

Madison Rotto suffered the loss in the opener, surrendering five runs (5ER) on eight hits with a walk in 4.1 innings. Four Presidents finished with two hits in game one, with DJ Ufolla and Vicky Doerschner each contributing a run and a RBI.

With the Tomcats leading 2-1 after four in game two the Presidents scored a run in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2. With one out and runners on the corners in the bottom of the seventh Everett scored the game-winning run on a President wild pitch.

Batiz and Davin each went 2-4 in game two. Batiz picked up her fourth win of the season on the mound, allowing two runs (2ER) on seven hits with six strikeouts in 7.0 innings.

Erin Shurman took the loss for W&J, giving up three runs (3ER) on 10 hits in 6.1 innings. Kelsey Cunningham and Brittany Swartzwelder each finished 2-3 at the plate for the Presidents.

Thiel returns to action on Friday, April 22 when they travel to PAC rival Bethany College. The doubleheader is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
