Tomcats Fall at Home to Westminster 48-21

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Thiel was dealt a 48-21 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss by visiting Westminster College Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

Thiel's (0-7, 0-5) De'Von Drish (Bratenahl, Ohio/Ginn Academy), the first Tomcat with a pair of 100-plus yard rushing games in a single season since Dan Hess had three during the 2007 season, finished the day with 124 yards on 24 carries.

Westminster (5-2, 4-1) concluded with a 315-282 edge in total yards and a 20-14 advantage in first downs. The Titans converted six-of-14 third down attempts (43%) while limiting the Tomcats to just 2-of-12 (17%).

Shawn Lehocky completed 22-of-25 passes for 202 yards and three scores and ran seven times for 44 yards. Gino Pasquinelli hauled in seven passes for 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Collin Wallace added six catches for 73 yards.

Zach Hoffman led a stable of Titan rushers on the afternoon, totaling 44 yards on seven carries.

Dave Buzzacco had seven tackles to pace the Titans. Derrick Orloski helped out with five tackles, a forced fumble and a tackle for loss while Ryan Brucker added three tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and a sack.

Andrew Smith (Williamsfield, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) finished 11-of21 passing for 135 yards and two scores and rushed for another. Saturday was Smith's first-ever game with multiple touchdown passes.

Kyle Turkalj (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) had a season-high seven catches for 46 yards to lead the Tomcat receiving corps.

Julian McLean (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) finished with a game-high 10 stops for the Tomcats. Tim Taylor (Girard, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep) recorded nine t ackles and 1.5 tackles for loss while Ethan Ludwig (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) added eight and a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss.

Westminster jumped out to an early 7-0 first quarter lead and carried a 28-0 advantage into the half. Despite limiting the Titans to -9 rushing yards in the second period, the Tomcats surrendered 103 passing yards and a pair of Lehocky touchdowns.

Thiel registered its first touchdown in seven quarters with eight seconds to play in the third as Smith scored from three yards out to cap a nine-play, 69 yard drive.

After forcing a Titan punt early in the fourth, the Tomcats strung together an 11-play, 64 yard drive that concluded with a nine-yard connection between Smith and Zane Garza (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut).

The Tomcats capitalized on a Titan turnover at their own 27 as Smith found Matt Fedzen (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) on the ensuing play for a score with just less than four minutes remaining.

The Tomcats return to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 as they're set to travel to Beaver Falls to take on Geneva College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
