GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's soccer team evened its season record at 3-3-1 with a 4-1 win over visiting Penn State Beaver on Thursday at Alumni Stadium. Freshman forward
Rory Duncan (Chardon, Ohio, Chardon) scored twice in the victory, giving him six in seven games to start the season.
Duncan started off the scoring in the 15th minute with a 25-yard strike that beat the Nittany Lion keeper to the right for an early 1-0 advantage. The Nittany Lions (1-4) were able to tie the game as Tyler Blake beat sophomore keeper
Josh Hideg (Hubbard, Ohio, Liberty) to tie the game at 1-1 in the 26th minute of action. Just twelve minutes later Duncan once again put the ball in the back of the net to give the Tomcats a 2-1 lead going into the break.
Just three minutes into the second half Duncan connected on a cross to freshman forward
Francis Ahia (Penn Hills, Pa., Penn Hills), which he headed past the Penn State Beaver keeper to extend the Tomcat lead to 3-1. Freshman midfielder
Luke Mesing (Freedom, Pa., Freedom ) would add one more goal off of a pass from freshman forward
Ryan Doherty (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) to close out the scoring at 4-1.
The Tomcats (3-3-1) return to action on Saturday, September 18 as the Blue and Gold will travel to D'Youville College for a 7 p.m. match.
