BEAVER FALLS - Geneva scored three goals in a 10-minute span in the second half on its way to a 3-1 win over visiting Thiel in a men's soccer match Wednesday.
The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in the first half before the offenses got rolling in the final 45 minutes.
The Golden Tornadoes (10-1-1) broke the scoreless tie in the 58th minute on a goal by Chris Morschl. Six minutes later Geneva went up 2-0 on a goal by Jake McCracken and just four minutes after that made it 3-0 with a goal by Teddy Kryswiecki. Kenton Burckhart assisted on each of the first two goals while Garrett Masters had an assist on the third goal.
Thiel avoided the shutout with an unassisted goal by freshman
Francis Ahia (Penn Hills, Pa., Penn Hills) in the 81st minute. It was his third goal of the season.
The Tomcats (5-7-1) will open play in the Presidents' Athletic Conference on Saturday. Due to construction at Stoeber Field, that game will be held at Mercer High School.
