NEW WILMINGTON - Playing in the first night football game at Harold Burry Stadium, Westminster rolled to a 35-0 win over visiting Thiel on Saturday.
The game was close in the first half with the Titans taking a 14-0 lead into the locker room. Quarterback Shawn Lehocky connected with Geno Pasquinelli for a 10- yard touchdown pass with 12:16 remaining in the second quarter. Tyler Banks scored the Titans' second touchdown on a 2-yard run with just over four minutes left in the half.
The Tomcats had a chance to cut the lead in half at the end of the second quarter when Joseph Grech recovered a Westminster fumble at the Titan 18-yard line but the drive ended with a blocked field goal.
The Titans added two more touchdowns in the third quarter. John Proano scored on a 2-yard run and Connor Kobis hauled in a 22-yard touchdown pass from Lehocky. Banks scored on an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
Freshman quarterback
Andrew Smith (Williamsfield, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) was 8 of 14 for 77 yards for the Tomcats.
Eric Petrovich (Newbury, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) led the team in rushing with 25 yards.
Grech stood out on defense for Thiel by recovering two fumbles.
Tim Taylor (Girard, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep) forced a fumble and had 3.5 tackles for loss.
Kris Tursky (Linesville, Pa./Linesville Conneaut Summit) also forced a fumble.
Ethan Ludwig (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) tallied two tackles for loss.
Thiel (0-7) will host Geneva on Saturday.
