GREENVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 24, 2009) – The Thiel College men's soccer team fought through a barrage of yellow cards as they earned their fifth win of the season during Thursday's match at Alumni Stadium. The men outscored Hilbert College 3-0 as their speed was too much for the Hawks to handle.
Darwin Porras (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) (Miami, Florida/Coral Reef) started things off for the Tomcats as he shot a rocket past Hilbert's goalie at the 27:02 mark of the first half.
Chad Swisher (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) assisted on Porras' team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The tempo picked up in the second half, thanks to freshman sensation
Savian Rosario (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) (Rutherford, New Jersey/ Rutherford) who scored his two goals in the period. Both goals could be attributed to his speed as he beat a defender then prevailed on a one on one with the goalie.
Junior goalkeeper
Tom Lange (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) (Poland, Ohio/Poland) kept the Hawks scoreless while tallying seven saves in the contest.
The Tomcats return to action on Tuesday Sept. 29 as they welcome Mount Union for a 4 p.m. match.
