Swisher and 'Cats Roll Past Panthers

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2009) --  The Thiel College men's soccer team won their fourth game of the season Tuesday as they handled Pitt-Bradford, 4-2, at Alumni Stadium.

Thiel was led by junior forward Chad Swisher (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) as he took part in all of the Tomcat scoring.  Swisher not only scored three goals himself, but also assisted in a goal by freshman forward Stephen Melfi (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) just minutes into the second half.

The forward duo of  Swisher and Melfi have accounted for 12 of the Tomcats' 23 goals this season. Their speed upfront is a challenge for most defenses Thiel has faced so far this fall.

Although the offense shined in the game, the defense played tough and held their marks throughout the match.  Freshman defenseman Hayes Smith (Winchester, Va./Sherando) (Winchester, Va./ Sherando) stood out for the Tomcats as he kept the defense sound throughout the game.

The men return to action on Thursday as they face Hilbert College for a 5 PM start at Alumni Stadium.
