GREENVILLE, PA (Sept. 17, 2009) – The men of Thiel College suffered their fourth loss of the season as the Hiram Terriors posted a 6-1 victory at Alumni Stadium. The first half was equally played as neither team scored in the period.
Junior forward Chad Swisher (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) (Alliance, Oh./Alliance) pulled his groin just minutes before gametime. Swisher has been named All-PAC twice, and was unable to play in Thursday's big matchup.
Senior goalkeeper David Rafle (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) faced a barrage of shots by the Terrior offense. Rafle recorded 15 saves in the game, as Thiel was outshot a total of 29-3. Rafle had many timely saves but the Tomcat defense was not able to overcome the speed of the Hiram's front line.
The lone goal from the Tomcats came off a corner kick from freshman forward Stephen Melfi (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) (Aurora, Oh./Aurora) as he angled the shot past the Hiram goalie. Melfi recorded his fifth goal of the season, which is also a Tomcat high.
The men return to the field Saturday as they travel to Bluffton University for a 4 PM start.
