Tomcat men blast the Mounties

Cesson, Pa. (September 1, 2009) – When entering Tuesday's contest against the Mount Aloysius Mounties, the Thiel College men's soccer team was in the midst of a 11-game road winless streak.  A little less than four minutes into the game, however, freshman forward Stephen Melfi (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) (Aurora, Pa/Aurora) put to rest any chance of this streak continuing into 2009 by whistling a laser past Mountie goalie, Jordan Johnson, off a Chad Swisher (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) pass to put the 'Cats up 1-0.  This opening goal served as prelude to the 8-0 dismantling that would take place over the next 87 minutes.

Melfi would go on to leave his fingerprint on the next two scores of the game, setting up Thiel midfielder, Cory Borland (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) for a goal at the 12:37 mark, and scoring an unassisted goal less than a minute later.

Swisher would be the next Tomcat to strike as he scored a goal off a Dale Grimm (Petrolia, Pa./Karns City) (Petrolia, Pa./Karns City) assist at the 18:30 mark then, followed that with an unassisted goal.

Freshman forward, Savian Rosario (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) (Rutherford, Pa./Rutherford High School) would be the one to finish off the Mounties by scoring the next goal and setting up Derek Workman (Valencia, Pa./Mars) (Valencia, Pa./Mars) and Cody Teitman (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) (Dillsburg, Pa/Northern York High School) for scores.

Freshmen duo, Josh Hideg (Hubbard, Ohio/Liberty) (Hubbard, Ohio/Liberty High School) and Wyatt Clements (Winchester, Va./James Wood) (Winchester/James Wood) combined for the shutout effort splitting time has goalkeeper.

The Tomcat men will return to action Thursday, Sept. 3 when they head to Beaver, Pa. to face Penn. State-Beaver.
