Greenville, Pa. (April 9, 2009) -- The Thiel College softball team proved to be their own worst enemy on Saturday, getting swept by the Lions of Penn State Behrend, 4-11 and 1-3.
Errors were the issue in the first game of the doubleheader, with the Tomcats committing a season-high seven miscues, squashing any momentum they tried to build. Penn State Behrend managed to scatter 13 hits across the field, and held the Tomcats to just seven throughout the first contest.
Junior first base,
Madison Chylik (Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Valley View), was one of a the few offensive sparks for Thiel College going 2-for-3 at the plate and scoring a one run, while
Laura Davin (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park),
Stephanie Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) and
Haley Germano (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) contributed an RBI each.
The pitching combination of
Elise Moore (Apollo, PA/Kiski) and
Kristen Moreland (Dover, Ohio/Dover) managed to quiet the bats of Behrend a little in game two, holding them to a combined three runs and six hits. But, Lion pitcher, Emma Hahn, kept the Tomcat bats cold as she struck out eight and allowed just three hits and a run in seven innings of work. .
