Beaver, Pa. (April 4, 2009) -- Despite being out hit, 23-14, over the course of the doubleheader, the Tomcats managed to sweep the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes on Saturday.

In game one, Geneva seemed to have Thiel College starting pitcher, Kristen Moreland (Dover, Ohio/Dover), number after scattering eight hits over her five innings of work.  But, the Tomcats displayed a bend but don't break style of defense keeping the Golden Tornadoes' first run scored in the top of the first the only run scored in the game.  While Thiel's defense held strong, it took the offense six innings to provide run support in the form of a Melissa Rankin (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth) RBI single to tie things at one.

Things would remain tied through seven, forcing the contest into an extra innings.  The eighth would be the only extra inning the Tomcat's needed, after Becky Betteridge (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) scored the game winning run at the top of the inning to take the first contest.

Game two saw the Tomcats jump out to an earlier lead when Rankingcranked a two-run blast deep over the fence in the first inning.  Geneva would strike back, scraping together a three-run third inning to take the lead but, the Golden Tornado lead wouldn't last long.  Thiel  answered the bell by putting together a four-run fourth inning, insuring the sweep.

Rankin led all Thiel performers after going 2-for-2 knocking in two RBI's and scoring three runs, while sophomore centerfielder, Laura Davin (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), provided two hits and an RBI in the victory.
