Washington, Pa. (April 16, 2009) -- The Presidents of Washington and Jefferson College proved to be too much for the Tomcats as Thiel lost, 3-8 and 3-7, on Thursday.
Things stayed close between the PAC rivals after the first few innings of game, as the Tomcats were able to stay within a run of the Presidents through five. But, in the top sixth, Washington and Jefferson surged ahead with a three run inning that Thiel could not match.
Emily Batiz (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg Area) allowed one earned run and five hits over four innings of work in the losing effort.
Laura Davin (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) lead Thiel offensively going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, while
Stephanie Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny),
Britain Callen (Andover, OH/Pymatuning Valley) and
Haley Germano (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) each registered a pair of hits in the contest.
Game two saw the President's jump out to a five run lead after three innings, and while Thiel, lead by a two-run home run by Davin in the fifth, made a valiant comeback effort, they came up a bit short.
Davin was once again the offensively leader for the Tomcats, tallying two hits, two RBI's and a run scored. Callen was another bright batting 2-for-3 with an triple.
