Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (March 6, 2009) -- The Thiel College softball team managed to end their six game losing streak on the final day of their spring break trip defeating Alvernia University 10-2. Good times were short however, with Concordia shutting out the Tomcat's 0-7 in game two.
In the first game of the day, sophomore pitcher, Emily Batiz (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg Area) picked up Thiel's first victory of the young season. The Tomcat bats were definitly alive on friday morning with Thiel tallying a total of ten hits. Junior, Stephanie Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny), led the Tomcats with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate, while Becky Betteridge (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) and Batiz had two hits apeice.
In game two, junior pitcher, Elise Moore (Apollo, PA/Kiski) went sixth innings and struck out three in the losing effort. Sophomore outfielder, Laura Davin (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) led the Tomcats offensively, finishing the day 2-for-4.
