Ten Errors Push Softball Skid to SIx

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (March 5, 2009) -- The sky continues to fall on the Tomcat softball team in what has turned into a nightmare of spring break trip.  Thiel lost 3-6 to Concordia and suffered a heartbreaking 4-5 loss in extra innings against Mount Aloysius.

Game one saw junior pitcher, Ashley McLimans (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg) striking out five but couldn't escape her third loss of the trip in a game that saw the Tomcats tally five errors.  Sophomores Laura Davin (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and Madison Chylik (Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Valley View) each had two hits in the losing effort.

In the 'Cats second game of the day things finally seemed to be going their way with Thiel's offense coming alive in the form of Stephanie Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) and Melissa Rankin (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth).  Rankin was locked in going 3-for-4 with a solo home run, while Smith went 2-for-4 with a two run homer.  Even with the Tomcat offense showing some life, Thiel's five errors would catch up to them in eighth when they finally withered under Mt. Aloysius' pressure.

With only two games remaining in the spring break tournament, Thiel will be looking to turn things around Friday when the face Alvernia University and Concordia.
