Thiel Offense Misfires in, 16-0, loss at Albion

ALBION, Mich. (Sept. 20, 2008) – On a rain-drenched afternoon made for a ground offense, Thiel College's failed to get going, as the Tomcats succumbed to  Albion, 16-0, in front of a  crowd of 1,472 at soggy Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium on Saturday.

The shutout loss marked just the sixth time under head coach Jack Leipheimer that Thiel has been blanked and the first time since a, 14-0, loss to Alfred in 2006.

The Britons held the edge in nearly every offensive statistical category, including total yards (303-137) and time of possession, in which Albion held a nearly two-to-one advantage.

It was the Albion defense, however, that drew the contest's first blood.  Facing a fourth and 12 situation on their own 22-yardline, the Thiel punt team botched its attempt, resulting in a safety and a, 2-0, Albion lead.

The Britons' other two scores came courtesy of freshman runningback Aaron Dolkowski – one on a 42-yard dash in the first quarter and the other on a one-yard run to cap a three-play, four-yard drive in the third quarter.

One of the lone bright spots for Thiel was the superlative performance turned in by junior defensive tackle William Haase (Latrobe, Pa./Derry Area) (Latrobe, Pa./Derry Area), who picked up his second sack of the season and a game-high eight tackles, including 3.5 tackles for a loss.

On offense, junior receiver Brendan Taylor (Girard, Pa./Girard) (Girard, Pa./Girard) was on the other end of over half of quarterback Willie Bova (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany)'s 106 passing yards.  Bova (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) connected with Taylor for 54 yards, including a 28-yard hook-up in the first quarter.

Thiel (0-2) returns to action on Sept. 20 when they host Washington & Jefferson.
