Thomas More Tops Thiel in a Wild One at Alumni Stadium

Greenville, Pa. (October 9, 2008) -- The Thiel Tomcats(4-8-1; 0-2 PAC) suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of the visiting Thomas More Saints (9-2; 1-1 PAC)in a contest that bordered on riot.

In an afternoon that contained strong defensive play, as well as eight yellow cards, the Tomcat's just couldn't manage to come through over the visiting Saints.  The Saints jumped ahead 2-0 after David Megel scored on a second half penalty kick. 

With nine minutes on the clock, Tomcat senior forward, Robert Glass (Greenville/Greenville) (Greenville/Greenville), knocked in his third goal of the season to bring the 'Cats within one.  What followed was the wildest final minutes of the season with five yellow cards setting the stage.  Tomcat midfielder Sammy Koyl (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Benedictine) (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Benedictine) lined up for a free kick with eight seconds remaining in the game. Koyl kicked a dart headed straight for the back of the net, when Thomas More goalkeeper, Matt Koopman, step in front to bat the ball down, ending the game, 2-1 Saints.

Thiel was lead by the defensive presence of freshman Darwin Porras (Miami, Fla./) (Miami, Fla.), senior Dorran Coley (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College) (Kingston, Jamacia/Kingston College), and junior goalkeeper Tim Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright).

The Thiel College men's soccer team returns on Saturday, Oct. 11 in a conference match at Bethany College to challenge the Bison.
