Tim Loomis enters his 19th season as the head men’s basketball coach at Thiel in 2024-25.
Loomis has built one of the most consistently successful programs at Thiel. Loomis’ men’s basketball program is a mainstay in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference postseason tournament since taking over the Tomcats in 2007.
Since 2007, 24 players have been named to All-PAC teams, including eight first-team selections and two conference players of the year in Blair Rozenblad in 2011 and Junior guard Tyreik Burton in 2017. Also in 2011, Loomis was named PAC Coach of the Year and led the Tomcats to finish with a 20-7 record, the most wins in a single season in team history and a PAC regular season conference championship.
Under Loomis, Rozenblad became one of the most decorated player in program history, as he was the first Tomcat to ever garner All-Great Lakes Region recognition three times in a career, and was also honored on All-region teams selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D3Hoops.com.
Loomis came to Thiel after serving as the head basketball coach at Kennedy Catholic High School (2001-2006), and sports an extensive resume that has included stops at both the NCAA Division I and II levels. He served as the head men’s basketball coach at Florida Atlantic University from 1989-1995. Prior to his appointment at Florida Atlantic, Loomis was an assistant at NCAA Division I Penn State University from 1986-1989 and the head men’s basketball coach at NCAA Division II California University of Pennsylvania from 1980-1986.

Loomis also served as an associate professor in the field of regional planning and geography and the president of the PSAC basketball coaches association while at California (Pa.). His efforts were recognized in October of 2007 when he was inducted into the California (Pa.) Hall of Fame.

During his six-year stint as the head coach at Florida Atlantic, Loomis helped advance a second-year NCAA Division II program to a NCAA Division I program in just two seasons. He was responsible for developing the booster club, the academic advising protocol and securing radio and television network coverage while devising a national recruiting strategy.
After returning home to Greenville to serve as the head coach at Kennedy Catholic, Loomis advanced the Golden Eagles to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) state playoffs in each of his five seasons, including appearances in the finals in 2001-2002 and 2004-2005.
