Tim Heffernan

Tim Heffernan enters his third season with the Tomcats and second as Thiel’s offensive coordinator.

In 2017, Heffernan's offense produced a new program record holder as running back Nick Barca collected 1,232 rushing yards to set a new single season mark.

In 2016, Thiel's rushing attack ranked fourth in the PAC averaging 209.8 rushing yards per game and 5.1 yards per carry. Quaterback Ryan Radke and running back Nick Barca combined to average 176.4 rushing yards per game and 17 rushing touchdowns on the season. Both Radke and Barca were named to All-PAC teams.

Heffernan served as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Division III John Carroll University in 2015. The John Carroll Blue Streaks went 8-2 in 2015. Under Heffernan’s guidance, Anthony Latina was named the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Offensive Lineman of the Year. The Blue Streaks led Division III in sacks allowed and tackles for loss allowed. In addition, running back Ro Golphin averaged 6.5 yards per carry.
 
Prior to his time at John Carroll, Heffernan coached the tight ends and offensive tackles at Division II Mercyhurst University in 2014. The Lakers went 7-4 in 2014. Under Heffernan, tight end R.J. Miller was named a first team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference first team selection and offensive lineman Ben Gysin was named a Daktronics All-Region first team pick. The Lakers ranked third in the nation in tackles for loss allowed and 12th in the nation in sacks allowed in 2014.
 
In 2013, Heffernan coached the offensive line at Thomas More College. The Saints went 9-1 and were co-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) champions in 2013. The Saints ranked 14th in the nation in total offense (487.2 yards per game) in 2013 and led the PAC in sacks and tackles for loss allowed.
 
Heffernan began his coaching career in 2010 as an assistant for St. Francis De Sales High School in Columbus, Ohio. Heffernan earned a bachelor’s degree in history from John Carroll University in 2010. He started 20 games as an offensive lineman for the Blue Streaks and earned three varsity letters.
