Jim Cessna is in his second stint as an assistant coach with the Tomcats. Cessna is the team's defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator in 2021. He previously served as tight ends coach and academic coordinator in 2019.

Since his last stint at Thiel, Cessna was an assistant football coach at West Middlesex High School. In just two seasons, Cessna helped coach five All-Region selections, one All-State selection, and the District 10 Player of the Year in 2019. The Big Reds reached the District 10 semifinals in both 2019 and 2020.

Cessna was a four-year member of the Albright football team and a consistent starter at center his junior and senior seasons. During his junior season, the Lions went 10-2, won the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. As a senior, Albright went 8-3 and won the Centennial-MAC Bowl championship in a 28-23 victory over Franklin & Marshall.

After graduation, Cessna returned to his alma mater, Millville School District, as the offensive and defensive lines coach in 2017 and 2018, while also serving as an assistant track & field coach. Cessna coached three All-State selections and reached the state semifinals during his time there.
