NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 15) — The Thiel College women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Westminster Tuesday evening at the UPMC Sports Complex in the Tomcats' Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener.
After a scoreless first half, Westminster broke through in the 69th minute to score the only goal of the night.
Thiel continued to battle throughout the second half but was unable to find the equalizer. The Tomcats finished with five shots, including three on goal.
Brynn Houser (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) kept Thiel within striking distance throughout the match, making six saves in 90 minutes of action. Houser made four saves in the first half before adding two more stops after halftime.
Liz Scheeff (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) led the Tomcats with two shots on goal, while Imogen deBlois (Hubbard, Ohio/Howland) added three shots, including one on target.
The loss moves Thiel to 3-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in PAC play, while Westminster improves to 4-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.
The Tomcats return to action Sunday, Sept. 20 as they travel down to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on the Carlow Celtics.
