GREENVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 12) — The Thiel College women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day in style Saturday, defeating Hilbert, 3-1, at Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field to secure its third consecutive victory.
The three-match winning streak marks Thiel's first three-game winning streak since 2013, when the Tomcats won five consecutive matches from Sept. 14 through Sept. 25. The five-match streak remains the longest winning streak in program history.
Thiel honored its seniors Abbey Balentine (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick), Kenna Reinard (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard), Marissa Tiber (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) and Savanna Yates (Hillsville, Pa./Mohawk Area) prior to the match.
Freshman Julia Fallon (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) opened the scoring in the eighth minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from Liz Scheeff (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls).
The Tomcats doubled their advantage in the 38th minute when Imogen deBlois (Hubbard, Ohio/Howland) scored, with Scheeff once again providing the assist. Hilbert answered just before halftime in the 41st minute, sending Thiel into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
The Blue and Gold quickly regained its two-goal advantage early in the second half. Fallon scored her second goal of the match in the 51st minute, assisted by Stacie Weimert (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown), to put the Tomcats ahead 3-1.
The Thiel defense held Hilbert scoreless for the remainder of the match to secure the Senior Day victory. Brynn Houser (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) made four saves in goal for the Tomcats.
Fallon led Thiel with four shots, all of which were on target, while deBlois recorded three shots, all on goal. Scheeff added one shot and finished with two assists.
Thiel finished with a 10-9 advantage in shots and put nine shots on goal compared to Hilbert's five.
With the victory, Thiel improved to 3-1-0 on the season to extend their winning streak.
Thiel returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Westminster for their first conference game of the season.
